Bike the Drive is a recreational, non-competitive bicycle ride held in Chicago annually that closes all motor vehicle traffic along the Lakefront. This year, the event will take place on Sunday, May 28.
The bike ride begins several hours before dawn to allow sunrise views of the Chicago skyline and of Lake Michigan. Cyclists can ride along Lake Shore Drive with no cars in sight for nearly five hours. The route extends approximately 30 miles, with riders beginning at Grant Park, going to the South and North extremes, and then returning to the starting point. Rest areas with refreshments and repair services are located at the north and south ends of the route, as well as the starting point.
People of all ages and cycling abilities are encouraged to come out and enjoy the ride. Following the event, there will be a free festival in Grant Park that includes music, food, cycling-related activities, vendors, and exhibits.
