South Shore

South Shore is a casual, family-oriented community near Chicago’s South Lakefront. The area features a golf course, tennis court, volleyball court, outdoor space for barbecues and picnics, and an on-site restaurant The Parrot Cage.

At the heart of the neighborhood is the South Shore Cultural Center (formerly the South Shore Country Club). The facility was founded in 1905 and retains much of its original architecture and design including a nature sanctuary and butterfly garden, grand solarium, formal dining hall, and horse stables. The Center is used for hosting private and special events, and offers through the School of the Arts youth and teen programs, community art classes, theater, a fine art gallery, music practice rooms, dance studios, and visual arts studios.

Visitors to Chicago’s South Shore can walk out on the beach and observe the emerging sand dunes, a small wetland and a variety of wildlife in the area at the South Shore Cultural Center’s Beach or both Rainbow Beach North and Rainbow Beach South.
